Ideal Water Parameters Breakdown

Maintaining a stable aquatic environment is the most critical factor for successfully keeping and breeding blue cherry shrimp.

Temperature: 20–24°C (68–75°F) is optimal, though they can tolerate 15–28°C (59–82°F). Keeping the temp stable helps prevent temperature shock, which can negatively impact molting.
pH: 6.5 to 7.8 is ideal, as it perfectly mimics the slightly alkaline, neutral waters where they thrive. Avoid drastic swings by testing regularly.
General Hardness (GH): 6 to 10 dGH is required. GH measures calcium and magnesium, which are essential minerals shrimp need to properly form and harden their exoskeletons after molting.
Carbonate Hardness (KH): 2 to 5 dKH. KH buffers the water to prevent dangerous pH crashes.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 150 to 300 ppm. This measures overall mineral content; a stable level in this range indicates a healthy, mineral-rich column.
Nitrogen Cycle: Ammonia (0 ppm), Nitrite (0 ppm), and Nitrate (< 20 ppm). Shrimp are incredibly sensitive to ammonia and nitrite.
