Pick N Mix lets you build your own pack of Neocaridina davidi shrimp from every colour Ayr Aquatics breeds in Ayr, South Ayrshire: Sakura Red Cherry, Red Cherry, Blue Diamond, Yellow Golden Back, Orange Sakura, Red Rili and Black Rose. You can choose any combination, all one colour or an even split. It is your tank, your choice.
This listing is for a pack of 20 Pick N Mix shrimp, our best value per shrimp. The 20-pack is for keepers who want a colony up and running fast, are stocking a larger tank of 40 litres or more, or want to start a breeding project with good genetic variety. With twenty shrimp you get a strong mix of males and females and plenty of breeding pairs, and the price works out cheaper per shrimp than our smaller packs.
Every shrimp in a Pick N Mix pack comes from the same graded lines we sell as single-colour listings, including our Sakura grade cherries and Blue Diamonds, so you get full-quality colour whichever shrimp you pick. How to choose: after ordering, send us a message (or leave a note at checkout) with the colours and numbers you want, for example '4 Blue Diamond, 3 Yellow, 3 Black Rose'. If we do not hear from you within 24 hours we will send an even spread of our best colours.
Pick N Mix is perfect if you want a particular colour scheme, such as blues and yellows for a contrast aquascape or reds and blacks for a dramatic look. It also suits topping up an existing colony with exactly the colours it is missing, or trying several varieties before choosing your favourite to breed.
Mixing colours: If you choose more than one colour for the same tank, they will interbreed and the colony will drift towards brown, wild-type colour over a few generations. If you want to breed a colour true, pick one colour per tank. You can order several Pick N Mix packs and only pay postage once.
Add them to a fully cycled tank only, with zero ammonia and nitrite. Shrimp are sensitive to copper, so check any plant fertilisers or medications before using them. Use dechlorinated tap water and do small, regular water changes of 10–20% a week rather than large ones. Moss, plants, cholla wood and Indian almond leaves give them biofilm to graze on and hiding places when moulting. Feed a quality shrimp food every day or two, in amounts they finish within a couple of hours, plus the occasional blanched vegetable.
Float the bag for 20–30 minutes to match temperature, then drip-acclimatise slowly over 1–2 hours before netting the shrimp into the tank. Do not pour the bag water into your aquarium. Keep the lights low for the first day and do not worry if they hide at first. That is normal.
