This kit includes everything you need to know to start a shrimp colony. Before purchase, please ensure your tank water is fully cycled before introducing shrimp for the best survivial rate.

How to get tank fully cycled?

To get a tank fully ready for shrimp, it needs to complete the nitrogen cycle (convert toxic ammonia into safe nitrate) and grow enough biofilm and algae for the shrimp to graze on. 

1. Start a tank with water, filter and lamp

2. Add a tiny pinch of fish food (ammonia source)

3. Add liquid biological starter (e.g. Seachem Stability).

If you have an establish tank, move some filter media and water to the new tank.

4. Leave filter on 24 hours and lights on for 8 hours per day for 4 to 6 weeks. 

(Tips: automate this process by using a 24 hour plug for lighting.) 

The cycle is complete when your water tests at zero ammonia, zero nitrate and some nitrate.

5. Add your favourite shrimps! :)

Size 1-1.5cm will be shipped to ensure the best chance of survival during transit and settling in a new environment. Shrimp of this size also has longer life span, as typically shrimp roughly lives about two years. 2 x extra shrimp will be added as a gesture of good will.

Indian almond leaves are great for shrimp tanks as they release tannins to lower pH, create a natural habitat with hiding spots, and provide antibacterial/ antifungal properties, while their decomposition forms a beneficial biofilm (microorganisms) for shrimplets to graze on, boosting health, molting success, and breeding. They act as natural water conditioners, reduce stress, and support immune systems, mimicking natural environments for shrimp. 

1 x Bamboo Charcoal with Moss

size: 10cm long

Bamboo charcoal's highly porous structure naturally purifies water by absorbing toxins, while offering a secure, dark refuge for molting shrimp. Moss provides a large surface area for dense biofilm to grow, which is a vital food source for the survival and growth of shrimplets.
