Malaysian Trumpet snails (Melanoides tuberculata) work below the surface, burrowing through the substrate by day and emerging at night. That burrowing turns over the sand or soil and prevents anaerobic pockets forming.
They are livebearers and will multiply if there is surplus food, though they stay largely out of sight. Completely safe with shrimp and healthy plants.
Keep GH above 6 so shells stay intact. A useful addition to any established shrimp tank with a sand or soil substrate.
